~Oh dear… now I am starting to worry for you.~
The voice of Garuda rings within Amarante’s mind. A voice that seems to be there more and more. Amarante sits in her quarters, staring at the closed door to her bunk. She wears only a light dress, the sort of thing one wears when retiring for the night. Her head rests in her hands, the weariness just biting at the back of her mind. Another sleepless night.. and right when she feels she needs to be at her best..
~You’re finding it harder and harder to sleep, aren’t you? And now.. this death threat to your little new family. You’ve got a lot going on in here, don’t you? But if you relax.. if you let your guard down.. you know who will have control.~
Amarante closes her eyes as she sits there, her emotions almost overtaking her. The voice gets more constant, the urge to just give up gets more strong. The voice Amarante hears sounds delighted, as if it knows that soon this Elezen will be broken. That she will give up.
~But think about it.. how powerful you could be if you allowed Garuda control. These people that threaten your friends, your way of life, you could slaughter them with little effort. How fun! You would be the big hero again!~
The voice cackles softly, the sound reverberating down into Amarante’s spine. “No..” she whispers, as if trying to plea to the Gods that just aren’t there at the moment.
~Well.. well yes. The mighty Crimson Knight.. captain of the guard. The strongest there is. And now.. look at you. A shadow of what you once were. But Garuda can change all that. Just.. let her in. Just think about how easily you would be able to help your friends with the power and stability Garuda would bring you!~
“Power.. and enslavement.. my very soul enslaved…”
~Well of course! But you would be stable, wouldn’t you? Stable in shackles is far better than this… mess.. you have become. Don’t tell me you haven’t given thought to it. Oh, no you don’t have to tell me. I can see it in your mind. To give in would mean you could have an advantage over all that stood against you. An advantage over the children you now live with, the ones that are so much stronger than you ever were. Yes, yes quite the dilemma.~
Another soft chuckle, and now Amarante lays back, her hands falling to her sides. She can feel tears now trickling down her cheeks.
~And look at this long term.. how else will I ever go away? Unless you stop your petty struggle.. I will always be here, Elezen. Always juuuuuust behind your eyes. Always watching for the blink of a moment when you stop fighting this. When Garuda takes hold. Oh I can’t wait!~
Amarante’s eyes now open slowly as she stares up at the ceiling. Just behind her eyes.. that’s the second time this Garuda has used that phrase. So.. what if..
She draws one of her hands up, and she places it over one of her eyes as she continues to stare at the ceiling. Huh.. it’s not so bad, seeing with just one eye. She could adjust.. Z’harus lives like this, so if that dolt can do it, she can excel like that..
Just behind the eyes..
