“Where… where is this place?” Amarante’s voice is hesitant, so unsure. All around her.. darkness. A pitch black so intense that it feels like it could swallow her whole. “Where am I?!” She shouts, her voice getting more distressed. “Lady Cartwright! Armantiel! Liyana! Aly! Anyone!” Silence follows the last call out, and she listens. But all she can hear is the blood rushing through her own veins.
~You are at the same place you have been your whole life, Amarante Huimaboux. You are nowhere.. left behind. Abandoned by those you called friends.~
The new voice is calm, almost sultry. Amarante’s eyes widen with realization of who that voice belongs to. “no..” she whispers as she takes a step back, thinking that perhaps that would help to make her more safe. A blinding flash of green light, and Amarante covers her eyes to shield them. And as she opens them.. she is now standing in a vast field, one with rocky outcroppings every few fulms. But it’s the swirling winds all around her that is the most stark reminder. “I know this place..” shes says softly, turning in a slow circle.
~But of course you do. This is where you thought you had defeated the Queen of Storms. Where you and your two little companions had thought you won over the day.~
A soft and uneven cackling is heard all around Amarante, her hands now in fists. And those fists trembling from utter fear. Amarante would cry out in surprise as there is suddenly claws at her face, her chin being tilted up by one of those dread claws. Forcing her gaze upwards, right into the darkened eyes of the Primal known as Garuda herself. Amarante wants to pull away, to hide.. but she is frozen in place.
~You had thought through all your efforts that you could defeat a Goddess.. how pitiable. But the best part.. the girl you made all these sacrifices for.. she doesn’t care in the least, does she? She never even thanked you.. you who put your life on the line to save her.. and she won’t even look in your direction now.~
The mighty Primal now floats in the air and away from Amarante, a wide grin on her thin lips.
~How angry this makes you.. You all allowed her life, and the payment received was.. nothing. She has spurned all of you. How delicious!~
Another cackling is heard as the very large Primal drifts back a little more, seeming very amused by all of this. Amarante now steps forward, speaking angrily and pointing towards Garuda. “We did not do it for reward! We did it because it was the right thing to do!” She stands up straight as she stares up at the Primal. And then.. she’s not. She gasps as she is suddenly bound by a dozen leather and brass bindings, the bindings holding her tightly, now laying upon the ground. Garuda lowers herself as she still grins, absently picking at the grass just before Amarante’s eyes.
~The right thing.. you hardly knew this person. She was dead, that is the natural order. And you turned that back. How decidedly arrogant of you and your friends, landwalker.~
She grins even more widely as Amarante shouts out, struggling against the bindings holding her in place. “We wanted our friend back!”
~THEY wanted their friend back. She was little more than an acquaintance to you. You happen to be in the same group. And for her.. you risked your very soul to defeat Garuda. Or so you had thought.. oh yes, you saw her fall. But do you truly thing you beat her? There’s no chance she escaped..~
Garuda now lightly pokes Amarante in the forehead.
~Escaped to here? You were to serve as a battery for her essence.. and in the act.. she has taken over. You had thought yourself better.. but you know the truth. You.. belong to Garuda now.~
Now Amarante feels tears in her eyes as she clenches her teeth, knowing the cold reality settling in. She’s right.. she’s sure that Garuda wasn’t beat.. she escaped.. hidden inside of Amarante the whole time.
~Can you feel her, little Elezen? Here.. right behind your eyes. That is where she exists now.. thank you for being such a gracious host. Garuda will be sure to mention it as she is killing your friends.~
“No!” Amarante calls out as she struggles moreso, but she is unable to move.
~Oh, oh yes. It will be your hand.. but Garuda’s heart.~
With a cry of anguish Amarante suddenly sits up in her bed, pulling the soft covers tighter to her body as she looks around in utter fear. “A.. dream..” she says in a shaky tone, her eyes scanning the slightly darkened room that serves as her quarters. “Just a dream..” She says with a whimper, now pulling one of her pillows close, as it to have it serve as her shield.
Just a dream.. but one so vivid that she won’t fall asleep again this night. It was just a dream.. but she knows that it was more.
